1904 FC to Face Local Rival in US Open Cup Debut

Posted in

The quest for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup will begin at home.

After today’s tournament draw, San Diego 1904 FC will be making its second-round debut against the winner of the first round match between open-division teams ASC San Diego and Chula Vista FC.

The open-division match is scheduled for March 24. Our one-leg playoff against the winner of that game will be held at Lincoln High School, with an early April date to be announced soon.

The second round of the cup features 58 participants from across the United States, with a competitor pool comprised of eight NISA members, six USL One teams, 25 USL Championship teams, and 19 lower-league sides.

The second-round draw matched lower-league sides to a professional team from the same geographical region. Remaining D2 and D3 squads are then drawn to play each other based on region as well.

If 1904 FC wins, we will advance to Round 3, which includes the entry of 11 low-seed Major League Soccer (D1) clubs. Matches for the third round will also be drawn based on a geographical basis.

The 2020 edition of the U.S. Open cup marks our arrival to the 107-year-old competition, among the oldest continually running contests in world football. We are excited to keep writing our own story as we fight for the historic national championship.
